Bioluminescence is when living creatures make their own light! If you have ever heard of a firefly, then you have heard about bioluminescence. Fireflies, and other bioluminescent creatures, make a protein enzyme and a light-emitting molecule, to make light. Most bioluminescent creatures live in the darkness of the deep ocean, and a few live on land. They use their glowing powers for a wide variety of reasons… to attract prey, confuse predators, or even just to see better. We’ve learned how these creatures create bioluminescence and, using science, we copied this ability to bring the wonder of bioluminescence in your hands!
While the Splashlight is most closely compared to a squirt gun, it is in a class of its own. It is the World’s First bioluminescent glowing water blaster. You load it with a protein and light emitting molecule that are based on what marine creatures produce and use to make their own light. If that doesn’t make sense yet, don’t worry, stay tuned and you will learn how living things can make their own light called Bioluminescence and how we are able to learn from those creatures to bring you a water blaster that sprays water that glows on its own using similar natural materials.
